Providing monthly best practice information for executives.

Each Month, I will provide insightful management thoughts for you to consider while pursuing your leadership skills.

As a starting point,  I present the words of Mr. Jack Welch in his book, WINNING where Mr. Welch defines “What Leaders Do”.  I ask that you state each question to yourself then ask, “Do I do this?”  See how you stand up to Mr. Welch’s List… and if your personal test does not include one of these statements, you then ask yourself “Why?”… Because you may be less of a leader and therefore your organization is suffering because of you!  Think about it… and improve yourself and your organization today!

What Leaders do… Do I do this?

  1. Leaders relentlessly upgrade their team, using every encounter as an opportunity to evaluate, coach, and build self-confidence.
  2. Leaders make sure people not only see the vision, they live and breathe it.
  3. Leaders get into everyone’s skin, exuding positive energy and optimism.
  4. Leaders establish trust with candor, transparency, and credit.
  5. Leaders have the courage to make unpopular decisions and gut calls.
  6. Leaders probe and push with a curiosity that borders on skepticism, making sure their questions are answered with action.
  7. Leaders inspire risk taking and learning by setting the example.
  8. Leaders celebrate.

I believe this one should be added:

  1. Leaders are Winners!
